Propulsion Engineering Internship
Summer 2025

Juno Propulsion is looking for an intern to work on our propulsion engineer team for summer 2025. If you are interested in joining our team and working on an exciting project, read ahead and apply below!

Application Deadline: Oct 30, 2024

Interviews: Fall 2024

Final Decision: Early Winter 2024

Space is the next frontier for human growth and exploration. Our ability to reach the stars is dependent on our methods of propulsion. Critically, advances in chemical rocket propulsion have stagnated, placing an upper bound on the types of missions and capabilities we can achieve in space. To enable the next era of spaceflight, we need novel and innovative propulsion technologies.

Juno Propulsion is a rocket engine production company located in the greater Seattle area looking to push the forefront of rocket propulsion technology to enable the next chapter of spaceflight. We are creating new propulsion products with our expertise in rotating detonation combustion (RDC) technology. Our propulsion products can be used on satellites in orbit, launch vehicles, or interplanetary missions. Juno’s mission is to revolutionize the chemical rocket propulsion landscape in the United States.

Who we are

Juno was founded on the principle that a diverse, inclusive engineering team will lead to the best competitive edge in the industry. Our culture is one that is welcoming of all employees of different backgrounds, skillsets, and perspectives. This dedication to a diverse team and healthy work culture is essential for the company and for our future hires.

We are a team that is excited about the future of the space industry and the exploration of our universe. We are passionate about solving tough problems through teamwork, building hardware, and making fire. We are looking for individuals who are similarly passionate about aerospace and want to make their mark on both our team and the new space industry.

Our culture

Juno is looking for a Propulsion Engineering Intern to tackle the challenging problem of creating modeling tools for rotating detonation physics which can be validated against hot-fire data. While this is the primary project, we may at any time need to be all-hands-on-deck and will not hesitate to ask our intern to work any number of challenges associated with prototype development of rocket thrusters. This includes assistance with hardware development, data analysis, and hot-fire testing.  As the company is early stage, this position offers a high level of ownership in contributing to company success. For this reason, we are looking for engineers who are creative thinkers, excited to work on difficult problems, and open to learning and growth both technically and professionally.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Development of a modelling tool for rotating detonation physics

  • Analysis of this modelling tool against experimental test data

  • Communication of work done, including a code description, instructions for future users, report of results, and update presentations.

  • Completion of any relevant engineering tasks needed for the success of the team.

About the Role

  • Pursuing or have a B.S. degree in engineering (aerospace, mechanical, chemical, physics, or math desired)

  • Proficiency in Python

  • Firm grasp of engineering fundamentals (fluid dynamics, heat transfer, combustion, etc.)

  • Experience taking basic requirements and translating them to results

  • Writing and presentation skills

  • A mindset toward learning and working with a mentor

  • Dedication to creating an inclusive team and company culture

Essential Skills

  • Experience with developing computational models

  • Experience working with rotating detonation combustion, pressure gain combustion, or adjacent technology

  • Pursuing an advanced degree in aerospace, mechanical, or other discipline of engineering (Master’s or higher)

Desirable Skills

Internship Period

This is a 10-12 week internship over the May - Sept 2025 timeframe.

Location

Federal Way, WA

Compensation

Hourly rate is $20-25 an hour.
